Janhvi Kapoor opens up about wearing rented clothes

Sustainable Fashion in Bollywood: Janhvi Kapoor’s Approach

Janhvi Kapoor, known for her impeccable style, recently shared a surprising aspect of her fashion choices while promoting her upcoming film, Mr & Mrs Mahi, opposite Rajkummar Rao. Despite her glamorous appearances, Janhvi revealed she often wears rented clothes and jewelry, emphasizing her commitment to sustainability.

Behind the Glamour: Method Dressing and Rented Attire

In the lead-up to the release of Mr & Mrs Mahi, Janhvi has been turning heads with her unique fashion sense, notably her ‘method dressing.’ At the trailer launch of the film, she impressed everyone by sporting a red jersey blouse paired with a royal blue skirt, reflecting her character’s cricket-centric role. Yet, behind the scenes, much of her stunning wardrobe is rented.

Candid Revelations on Mashable India’s The Bombay Journey

During her appearance on Mashable India’s The Bombay Journey, Janhvi candidly discussed her rented outfits. She mentioned that the ensemble she wore on the show, including her shirt, necklace, and bracelets, was rented. “Whenever the stylists call for clothes, they’re mostly rented. The shoes and rings are mine but the necklace and bracelets are not mine. The shirt is also not mine. Bhaade ke hain!” she shared.

Janhvi explained that her outfits and accessories are often customized for her but are returned after public appearances. “Of course, these are customized for me, but they’ve all been rented. This entire look is put together by renting clothes and accessories. In sabko lautana padta hai (We have to return them). Does that qualify as being sustainable?” she asked.

Embracing Repetition and Sustainability

Janhvi also spoke about her comfort in repeating clothes, highlighting her attachment to a beloved night suit featuring her favorite character. “I repeat clothes. Mera ek night suit hai which I refuse to let go of. It has the face of my favorite embossed on it,” she divulged.

Her friend and fellow actor, Sara Ali Khan, has also endorsed sustainable fashion. In a 2020 interview with iDiva, Sara mentioned her practice of repeating clothes and wearing rented outfits, hoping to contribute to sustainability in fashion.

As the release date approaches, Janhvi’s honest revelations about her fashion choices add a refreshing layer to her public persona, showcasing her dedication to sustainability while maintaining her stylish image.
